NY Times Square | Gottfried Salzmann
Gottfried Salzmann’s NY Times Square (2013) is beautiful in multiple ways. To look at this iconic portion of the World through the eyes of this 1943 born internationally awarded famous Austrian painter is both like being let into a dream and a privilege. True to his trademark of using multiple techniques simultaneously, this giclée in handmade cotton paper has the feel of a rainy late afternoon- full of promises and bursting with melancholy. Accents in the shade of red and pink tucked in billboards and store boards give it a twist of bliss and joy. Salzmann is lauded for creating complex and ethereally appealing image structures through mixing his techniques of watercolour, mixed media, photography and collage. This particular painting reflects not only that but also his way of obtaining his source material - by walking around in the streets of New York as an observer with a camera. Brilliantly translated through his artist’s eye, this is a limited edition masterpiece signed and numbered by the artist himself.
